Milwaukee, with a population of approximately 577,222, sees over 129,000 bookings into local jails annually. We are committed to reuniting families affected by incarceration and supporting individuals in achieving their personal and family goals. Our task is significant: reaching out to our youth and empowering parents to strengthen and restore family integrity, allowing them to thrive regardless of their incarceration status. By partnering with various organizations, we aim to provide comprehensive resources and opportunities, ensuring that each participant has the support needed to thrive and build a stronger, more resilient community.

FREE

FREE is a Wisconsin-based project led by women impacted by the criminal legal system.

It addresses the unique, gender-specific challenges and consequences they face. Nationally, women’s incarceration rates are rising twice as fast as men’s. In Wisconsin, about 3,000 women and girls are in state and local facilities, with 13,061 under parole or probation. Incarcerated women often endure disproportionate levels of lifelong trauma,

abuse, and co-occurring disorders.
